Incorporated on April 17, 2002, by Carl Lee-McGill, MA, a former 16 year veteran police officer of the Los Angeles Police Department and current University of Phoenix criminal justice professor, to accomplish the following goals after he lost his job to an on-duty traffic incident.
- To discourage discrimination against light-duty police officers particularly pertaining to ‘coveted’ job assignments and promotional opportunities, both of these opportunities are rarely if ever made available to capable light-duty personnel.
- To ensure that light-duty police officers receive benefits and pay in a forthwith manner.
- To ensure the rights of light-duty officers according to the American With Disabilities Act.
- To remove the stigma of unworthiness that permeates the Department and its hierarchy regarding light-duty personnel. More aggressively, if medical diagnostic tests have confirmed the disability and the officer is willing to work.
- To set up a system of check and balances to ensure that capable light-duty personnel are assigned career-enhancing assignments, and they are being encouraged to seek promotional opportunities.
- To set up a system of check and balances to ensure that capable and desirous light-duty personnel are not routinely relegated to mundane task type assignments that generally only intensify any existing feelings of unworthiness.
